Weenie's Philosophy of "To Do's"

So this is my philosophy on “To Do” Lists…

..the motivation and success of to do lists is all in seeing things accomplished...so that's why even on an "off" day it good to make a short list of simple tasks, but in having completed them you still feel productive and more eager to tackle the next day's list…

This is what I was explaining to Bobbi the other day.

You can also blame her for the lameness of this blog. But it was her who requested that I write another (and she is the reason that writing this made my Wednesday To Do List), and since she’s one of my few loyal readers I thought it best to keep her happy.

To further establish my ‘dorkiness’ let me further explain my obsession with lists. I keep a binder, yes an ENTIRE binder, solely for this purpose. In it I have dividers. One is for my general, daily “to do’s”, another is for other lists that I keep (this includes my book list, goal lists – there are several to include different time frames, shopping lists, Christmas gift and cards lists for the past years and an ideas list for the upcoming holiday season, then there is a section for random notes pertaining to any of this or for information that is required for a task on my daily to do list, a miscellaneous section for anything that doesn’t fit elsewhere, and the final section is labeled “writings” in which I keep some of my course work (that I really should get working on again, that’s on my goal list for 2006) and recreation pieces that I’ve written.

Here I must take a potty break, not for me, but rather for Asili. I’ve even remembered to save this incase my computer freezes while I myself am outside in the freezing cold.

Back. It’s actually, surprisingly, a really nice night out.

And I’m not so completely anal that I am upset if something on my list doesn’t get done. It can always be shifted to the next day’s list. I function like this at work as well. My entire agenda book if full of “To Do’s”…of course at work it’s more important since I have so many events and things on the go simultaneously (which is one of the things I love about the job!). Currently I am working on; March Break, Spring Home Show, Easter, Police Week, Job Fair, the AGM and yes even Christmas 2006!

Anyways, I am sure you will agree that I’ve written more than enough on this.

Tomorrow evening I am going to the Chamber Business Awards. One of the stores in the mall that I nominated for an award actually won…so woo hoo! I spent half my evening today figuring out what shirt to wear with my suit (yes this was on my list of to do’s)…my biggest problem was that I wanted to wear one of my already ironed shirts. Anyways mission accomplished, I figured something out.

Over the weekend I’ll take some new pictures of Asili and post them. She’s now 3 months old. The previous photo is from when she was just 5 weeks old. She’s starting to lose her puppy look. She can now sit on command and play fetch. Those are the Asili highlights.

Anyways, off to scratch “write blog” from my Wednesday list! :)

Thank you.
I really needed a new blog to read lol.

Oh... btw...
I'm back into To Do Lists
In fact, it's 6:20 and I'm writing one now.

Thursday's To Do List(written in pencil)
1. Find a Pen

Okay... so I'm not real modivated yet..but i'm sure, once I find a pencil... then I'll get into high gear for the day, write a nice long To Do List and celebrate everytime I scratch one of.

:|

I COULD happen.
You never know.

I'm gonna go read... THEN finish my to do list.

:-S don't think I'm very good at this.

Thursday To Do List:

1. Find a Pen

2. Ask Verena to pick up more of my most favorite pens because they die too quickly.

3. Stop posting boring comments on Verena's blog.

4. Stop posting shit on the to do list that will never happen.

5. Revise understanding of the purpose of to do lists and start making ones I can "TO DO" rather than "STOP TO DOING"

6. Have a coffee.... sheesh I'm hurtin this morn.

Okay, heres a question regarding To Do List etiquette;

When writing your To Do List, do you put reasons in your list or not? (see above to do list for examples... ((for the slower blog readers out there))) or do you simply write actual tasks/actions which must be completed?

Hrmmm... think I"m gonna hold of on my To Do List till you wake up and answer these vital To Do List questions.

And no, I'm not procrastinating... This is serious stuff... I'm pretty new to, To Do Lists, and want to make sure that I'm doing them right, to be the effective that I can.

One last To Do List etiquette question...

Do you do your To Do List in the order they are listed?

If that's the case, then I'm going to have to start having a brainstorming To Do List page, before I finalize it in an actual to do list.

Wow... never realized there was so much to To Do Lists.

But, you have to admit it's pretty amazing just how much time I can spend procrastinating.

I honestly hope no one else reads your blogs, or they're gonna see my eight million stupid comments.
LMAO... no wonder your friends are afraid of me!

To your first comment:

A tip for you in feeling like you are accomplishing more...if reading that particular book is a goal of yours...add reading to your list. For example right now I'm reading "Mein Kampf" and its a difficult read, so sometimes I add read a chaper to my to do list so that I feel "obligated" to read some...because while it is quite interesting, sometimes I would rather just watch TV...this keeps me on track with my goal list.

To your second comment:

No, I do not put reasons on the list. For the simple purpose that you cannot cross a reason from you list. Stick to pure tasks so that you can have something to cross off. This keeps your motivation and success up.

To your third comment:

No, I personally don't put my to do's in any order. I used to be more anal and would put my to do lists in a time structured list with exact time points. But I found that didn't work for me. Either it would take longer than anticipated and once you steer away from the list it is harder to get back to it. So by keeping the list unstructured it allows you the flexibility to complete the to do's in an order that keeps you going.
